Title : Consumer acceptance and use of mobile banking services in Bangladesh

Authors : Nisha, N., Idrish, S. & Hossain, M.Z

Abstract : Banking today has undergone a radical transformation in several developing countries with new products, new services and new channels appearing almost on a daily basis. Traditionally, the distribution of services in the banking industry followed the brick-and-mortar model, wherein customers had to visit a physical branch and queue to access any financial services [Sulaiman et al., 2007; Awadhi, 2013]. Over time, the banking sector has shifted from this traditional banking to the modern day or branchless mode of banking, where the banks can be reached anytime and at any point for their services [Saleem and Rashid, 2011]. This tremendous change in the banking sector can be attributed to the rapid advancement of new technologies as well as to the growth in mobile penetration in many developing countries across the world [Khraim et al., 2011; Jeong and Yoon, 2013]. While technology changed the design and delivery of financial services and the way consumers interact with their financial service providers, the increase in the use of wireless telecommunications like mobile phones, Internet-enabled Smartphone and PDAs (personal digital assistants) also contributed to this change to a large extent. In fact, this widespread adoption of mobile phones provided banks with the opportunity to introduce an innovative medium of financial services delivery – mobile banking.
