Title : ‘The Politics of Medicinal Opium & Indian Resurgence in International Drug Trafficking in the 1980s’
Authors : Haq, M. Emdadul
Abstract : This paper addresses the complex relationship between Australia's entrance & India's decline in the international market for exporting medicinal opium in the early 1980s. It impacted in the diversion of licit opium into illicit channels & increase in the illegal production of narcotics & psychotropic substances in India subsequently. As a result of the massive supply of contraband drugs from India, Bangladesh emerged as a major consumer & transit for Indian illicit drugs.
