Title : Labour Market Returns to Education: Evidences from Bangladesh

Authors : Begum Salma, Tasmia Nahreen Jahangir

Abstract : This study computes the rate of returns to education (RORE) in Bangladesh at the individual level. Adopting the Mincer earnings function, the study attempts to obtain robust and unbiased estimates of RORE by applying both Instrumental Variables (IV) approach and Heckman two step procedure. Parents and spouses education have been used as IV in two separate models and are found to be strongly related to schooling of individuals. Significant sampling bias exists in the OLS estimation. Results indicate RORE is comparatively low in Bangladesh.
