Title : Income Inequality in Bangladesh During the 1980s and 1990s

Abstract : The principle objective of this paper is to estimate a variety of inequality measures for nationwide and also for urban and rural sectors of Bangladesh using a real data set from BBS (Bangladesh Bureau of Statsitics) publikations, "Household Expenditure Survey" corresponding to different years.To test whether changes in inequality from one period to another period are statistically significant or not, Bootstrap methods are applied. The empirical results confirm, that in nationwide the welfare policy is going to be worsened, but it is more serious in urban sector of Bangladesh. Also, from the empirical results, it has been found that in rural sector of Bangladesh, the income distribution is relatively stable.
