Authors : Md. Sharif Hossain and Md. Kamal Uddin

Abstract : Still now, the agricultural production play significant role for economic development in Bangladesh. But, the agricultural production largely depends on different macroeconomic variables; specially depends on the production of fertilizers and the government subsidies on agricultural sector. That is why, in this paper the principal purpose has been made for an empirical investigation to find the impacts of government subsidies and production of fertilizers on agricultural production by using modern econometric techniques. Specially, in this paper the unit root tests are applied to know the existence of non-stationarity in the series of agricultural production, production of fertilizers and government subsidies on agricultural sector and the co-integrated tests are applied to know either the different pairs of variables share the same stochastic trend or not. The Granger causality tests are also applied to clarify the causal direction between different pairs of variables. Also regression analysis has been conducted in order to examine the statistical association between the agricultural production and other selected macroeconomic variables.
