Abstract : In recent years, the government of Bangladesh (GOB) has taken initiatives to enhance the quality of education at the tertiary level and developed a Higher Education Strategic Plan 2006-2026 aiming to establish QA culture in the higher education institutions. Aligned with this plan, the GOB and the World Bank jointly funded a project named the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project through the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh. Under this project, by the end of 2018, Institutional Quality Assurance Cells (IQAC) will be established in 69 universities of Bangladesh with an aim to develop functional, effective and transparent systems to ensure quality in teaching, learning and research. The primary objective of this study is to identify the key-factors essential for establishing an IQAC in Bangladesh. North South University (NSU) was selected as the study area and a survey was conducted among the faculty members who were also members of the departmental self assessment committees
