Impact statement: This article highlights a "brutal reality" in Bangladesh, where child abuse, particularly rape and online harassment, has escalated during the COVID-19 pandemic. It notes that nearly 89% of children have experienced violence from caregivers and that online harassment has increased 3.5 times compared to pre-pandemic levels. The authors argue that current laws and the judicial system are inadequate, calling for policymakers to initiate realistic interventions, such as amending the Digital Security Act to address pedophilia and launching mass media campaigns to reform social views and encourage the reporting of child violence.
