| Impact statement: This study reveals an alarmingly high prevalence (57.7%) of depressive symptoms among mothers of school-going children in Dhaka, identifying a significant link between maternal mental health and poor childhood nutrition. The research establishes that children of depressed mothers are significantly more likely to consume fewer fruits and vegetables, while interestingly showing a lower intake of fast food. By highlighting how maternal depression impairs the understanding of a child's nutritional needs and disrupts feeding patterns, these findings provide a vital mandate for integrating maternal mental health screenings and health education into national nutrition programs to protect the long-term growth and cognitive development of urban children. | Collaboration: Partner University | Keywords: Depressive symptoms, Mother, Eating behaviors, School-going children, Dhaka, Bangladesh |
