| Impact statement: This hospital-based study identifies a high prevalence of hypothyroidism (11.5%) among dyslipidemic patients in Bangladesh, with subclinical hypothyroidism (9.5%) being far more common than overt cases. The research establishes significant links between TSH levels and both obesity (BMI) and diastolic blood pressure, while also finding positive correlations with total cholesterol and LDL-C. Notably, the study reveals that female patients have a significantly higher BMI compared to males in this population. These findings serve as a critical call to action for healthcare providers to routinely screen thyroid function before initiating antilipemic therapy, ensuring that misdiagnosed hypothyroidism does not exacerbate treatment risks and that patients receive comprehensive metabolic care. | Collaboration: Other | Keywords: Dyslipidemia, Hypothyroidism, Thyroid-stimulating hormone |
