| Impact statement: This cross-sectional study of 200 patients in Dhaka reveals that 18% of patients scheduled for coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery also suffer from significant moderate or severe carotid artery stenosis (CAS). The research identifies that obesity, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus are the strongest predictors of severe arterial narrowing. Crucially, the study demonstrates that multi-vessel coronary artery disease is significantly associated with more severe CAS. These findings serve as a vital call for surgeons to implement routine duplex screening for all elderly and high-risk patients undergoing heart surgery to proactively identify stroke risks and improve postoperative survival rates in Bangladesh. | Collaboration: Partner University | Keywords: Carotid artery stenosis, ischaemic heart disease, coronary artery bypass graft surgery |
