Impact statement: This study provides critical evidence from Armenia, a context where pregnancy termination is legal but maternal mortality remains a concern. The research identifies that marital control by husbands makes women 26% more likely to experience pregnancy termination, while sexual violence increases the likelihood by approximately 10 times. These findings serve as a vital call to action for the Armenian government to formulate and implement policies that target both men and women to reduce the prevalence of violence. Strengthening these policies will ensure women are empowered to make autonomous decisions regarding their reproductive health, ultimately improving familial harmony and child cognitive development.
