Impact statement: This cross-sectional survey of 384 COVID-19 patients reveals that while roughly 84% of cases were asymptomatic or mild, significant demographic and clinical factors drastically influence disease progression. The research identifies that patients over 55 have a 9-fold higher chance of severe infection compared to younger adults, and factors such as male gender, smoking, diabetes, asthma/COPD, and cancer are significantly associated with severity. By establishing these determinants, the study provides a critical evidence-based mandate for policymakers to use vulnerability ratings to ensure high-risk comorbid patients receive the appropriate medical resources and managed care.
