Impact statement: This is the first study to investigate body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) in Bangladesh, revealing that a significant 12.5% of undergraduate university students experience BDD symptomatology. The research identifies that female gender, current smoking (2.7 times higher odds), and attending a private university (1.7 times higher odds) are major predictors of the disorder. By establishing that common obsessions include acne (12.5%) and thinning hair (9.5%), the study provides a vital evidence-based mandate for policymakers to develop adequate counselling and psychological guidelines to protect the mental health and academic potential of the nation's youth.
