| Impact statement: This retrospective study of 58 children in Bangladesh reveals that psychiatric morbidity is extremely common following Chikungunya infection, with delirium (77%) identified as the most prevalent symptom. Unlike adult patients who more frequently present with anxiety and depression, children in this study exhibited high rates of panic disorder (56%), phobic disorder (36%), and fatigue syndrome (27%). The research suggests that the virus may disrupt neurochemical equilibrium or that high-grade fever itself triggers these complications. These findings serve as a vital call for the development of prophylactic vaccinations and the implementation of early diagnostic tools to mitigate long-term psychiatric injuries and improve pediatric healthcare outcomes during arboviral outbreaks. | Collaboration: Other | Keywords: Chikungunya, Dengue, Psychiatric Symptoms, Children, Bangladesh |
