Impact statement: This chapter examines the structural and policy challenges surrounding intra?regional trade in South Asia under the Southern Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). It focuses on trade facilitation measures, including tariff liberalization, non?tariff barriers, customs cooperation, and regulatory harmonization aimed at enhancing the flow of goods and services within SAARC countries. By analyzing the institutional and procedural barriers that currently impede trade, the chapter contributes to understanding how South Asia can leverage regional cooperation mechanisms to improve economic integration and growth. Increased intra?regional trade has been shown to reduce trade costs and expand market opportunities for member states, potentially unlocking economic benefits that remain untapped due to institutional constraints and geopolitical challenges. This work is relevant for policymakers, economists, and international trade law scholars concerned with regional integration in South Asia.
