| Impact statement: This pilot study represents the first placement of school nurses to conduct comprehensive health checkups in rural Bangladesh, revealing that 27% of primary school children are malnourished and 8.8% suffer from helminthic infections. The research exposes a critical gap in health literacy, with over 50% of children lacking basic awareness of malnutrition and rarely practicing essential hygiene behaviors like handwashing before eating. By identifying that low parental education and poor domestic sanitation are significant risk factors, the study provides a vital mandate for national school nurse programs to deliver evidence-based health education, ultimately protecting the physical and cognitive development of the nation's youth. | Collaboration: Partner University | Keywords: Malnutrition, Helminthic infection, Primary school children, School nurse, Health behavior, Bangladesh |
