| Impact statement: This descriptive cross-sectional study of 289 secondary school students in Bhaktapur, Nepal, reveals a high PTSD prevalence of 56% fifteen months after the devastating 2015 earthquake. While the majority of affected students were mildly affected (71%), the research identifies significant associations between PTSD and low parental education, low family income, and the loss of property or family members. A critical finding is that students whose parents are laborers or farmers are significantly more susceptible to the disorder. These results serve as an urgent call for policymakers and educators to implement targeted psychological counseling, awareness programs, and extracurricular activities within schools to mitigate the long-term mental health consequences of disasters among vulnerable youth. | Collaboration: Other | Keywords: Disasters; earthquake; school students; PTSD and Nepal |
